Hello,

Web hijacking by a few .

I am musing about all the maneuverings by big bucks, to enforcing copyright laws on the Web.

Of course it is their rights to do so.

The problems are that those big companies are so powerful in terms of finance, that they will try to control the Web. In the name of copyrights.

Much have been said about it a long time ago . Where one can make money, that is where one should go.

My questions are simple:
– Why those companies are not able to protect their assets by investing in ways to do it ? instead of wanting to control the Web ? It is as if they try to control editing companies (from old days), even their distribution routes.

– The Web are a means of communications, that our predecessors and today fought to free them.

Say, what happens if all our roads are controlled by a few companies ? And editing laws who are will be allowed to use them ( for a fee of course).

That shudders me that we are returning back to eons ago, where oligarchies were controlling everything. New age Serfdom.

– The copyright laws as I perceive it, is a matter of private sphere mainly. So why hijacking the Mesh ? Because it is easier for them do so, with a big ROI at the keys. AND BECAUSE THEY HAVE LOST THE BATTLE of Copyright technologies (on physical support, eg drm and al.).

Governments will profit from this also. In the name of national security. Look back in recent history.

– I propose to ask those majors not to use the Web as a scape goat to hide away from their own demise. If they are fearing, why not shun away from it ? They are such lousy techs.

I have been an actor (dirty small, atomic scale) which has permitted the rise of this technology.

– Governments, you are suffering schizophrenia and liars at that. Prove us that your are governing for all and not for a few.

Don’t try to take excerpts and made my posting as being a dangerous terro… OLD TRICKS.

The end of time

I am sick.

Sick to see and hear the news. Nothing has changed much since previous century.

Wars, famine , catastrophs … I try to look at the positive side, such as Science and technology progress.

In the media and wannabe announce the End is for 2012. Not a big deal for me.

I believe that more and more people are thinking that man do not deserve to last. Man is destructing his habitat.

For me, it could be a chance to transform the whole ecosystem (Earth) into something new. Or maybe, it would be an startover again.

I am thinking about for example, the magnetic poles of the Earth, are in the process of reversal. This has been proposed by some people during last century, albeit by wannabe nuts; The scientific community seemed to refute at the idea.

We are talking about mass extinction of some living species (pleonasm), due to pollution and climate changes made by man. But we pass into silence, the discovery of “new” species.

The End does not mean the End of the Earth. Even if the later enters into collision with meteors and crams up with gamma bombardments from the distant explosion of a star.

Just think about living species, discovered at places that Science thought not possible.

I prefer to think that man will change into a “new” lifeform, adapting himself. We are the descendants of myriads species on Earth.

Religiously speaking, human soul could be insufflated Heavenly; If not, what is the purpose of my life ? How comes I can think (therefore I am) ? This no one can answer with certainty. Faith and Believing.

Down to the earth. Why viruses can self adapted against extinction, and not humans ? Are we so infatuated that the idea of becoming something else than man is a nonsense, a blasphemy ? We would know only, once we would be there.

It is time to take our responsabilities. No excuse. No scapegoats. Of course, we do not know that we are wrongdoing until we see the results.

Hopefully, I am doing mistakes. If not, life will be boring to death … But, the are limits, of course.

The End is not the ultimate End. I prefer to think like that, for my own sake of sanity (quoique).

I am “happy” to live in this age of transformations; for good or bad, I don’t know, till I could see the results.

Why man would be immuable ? Because, man was created to the “Image de Dieu” ? I dare to say that man is physically the Image of God, but not his powerfulness and omniscience. Because of that, man can’t say anything about his future; The later depends on his present actions. Les voies de Dieu sont impénétrables.

I like the thoughts ( a very long time ago), that it is not possible to predict future(s), because of the incomprehensions and the shear size of present states (causality). Future is not a sole straight line. Future(s) are the sum of minuscule events from the whole Universe (be it known or not), beyond our grasp.

I prefer to think that man is not the End of the Story.

Back to the basics with grub version 1.

A reminder for myself. Thanks to the web …

I like to keep the original OS, which is delivered with the netbook. In this case, Xandros.

I like to “play” with other Linux brands; so I install one these on SDHC meory card. In this case, Ubuntu 8, 9, 10.04 LTS.

During those successive installs, I lost the mbr on /dev/sda1 (Xandros); the Xandros menu.lst is on SDHC, along with the other Ubuntu.

Today, I decide to “regenerate” the grub on SSD /dev/sda1. Ha! I forgot what to do, despite tons of notes. I browse (or google) the web. Not much about grubbing, but whole restoration etc … A nuisance.

Back to the basics:

1) Boot the Eeepc as usual; In this case “ESC”, choose the second boot option (USB card reader), choose “normal boot on /dev/sda1”. I am then booting with Xandros.

2) In Xandros, I use the terminal and type:

– sudo grub

– grub> find /boot/grub/stage1

hd0,0

– grub> root (hd0,0)

– grub> setup (hd0)

Checking if /boot/grub/stage1 exists …

Checking if /boot/grub/stage2 exists …

running “embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5(hd0) … 15 sectors are ebedded … succeeded

running “install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+15 p (hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2

/boot/grub/menu.lst” … succeeded

– Shutdown the PC.

– Take out the SDHC.

– Power on.

– OK !!!

With years, I forgot the basics…

Tune From hell ?

A tune I can’t put a finger on it.

To my family. Head straight on. Despite enduring sufferance, there will be a time to soothe and heal. Those who sneer at you, don’t care. They are not the Almighty.

If evil exists then so is goodness .

Turn eyes to the puny flame nonetheless.

Heaven can wait. I am not perfect yet,

Maybe never will be, that is the knot.

Hell can wait. I am not evil enough,

Maybe never will be, have I to laugh ?

Suffering so young,

Eeepc 4G (701) upgrading to Lubuntu 12.04
Tuesday 10 July 2012

Equipments:

– Eeepc 701, 4G. 2GB. SDHC 16GB containing 10.04 LTS Desktop .
– Other: Ecafe EC900 1GB ram, Eeepc 1001PX 1GB ram (dirty old aren’t they ?), but dirty cheap. I have got all of them for a bargain.

Yep. Ubuntu makes available the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and al.

During some days, I have tried to install it on my little Eeepc 701, my preferred “workhorse”, de tous les jours. The later has 10.04 LTS installed and is due to be unsupported by April 2013.

I think that this little beast will survive until then (or would it be the End of the Hitory on 21st December ?).

Here the preliminary results :

1) Unable to boot the 12.04 LTS CDROM, that I bought with a Linux Mag. This same CDROM does boot on Ecafe EC900.

2) On EC900, continue to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on SDHC 16GB. Installation goes through, but unable to boot! Black screen.

3) On Eeepc 701, the SDHC containing the installed 12.04 LTS does not boot. Black screen.

4) On Eeepc 1001PX, booting the 12.04 LTS is Ok. Running.

Googling around: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS seems not to support Celeron and others, using PAE.

5) One day later, I try to boot the SDHC containing the installed 12.04 LTS ith Ecafe EC900, it does boot and run (???). I do the usual updates.

6) Today, I try to install Lubuntu 12.04 Desktop Live, as someone on the web reports that it runs on his Eeepc 701, but his internal 4GB SSD, with Lubuntu 12.04 alternate. Thanks guy.

On my Eeepc701:

– unetbootin the iso on USB key, 4GB.
– Boot the USB key.
– Install on an USB key 16GB. OK. Caveats: It needs and asks for a swap partition. So I let a swap partition of 2GB, and the rest for / .

– After the install and verification that it runs, I make the usual updates from the web. It’s slower than a SDHC based system, but I can live with it.

– Intall all my usual preferred programs. Sound good.

– By default, Lubuntu does not install firefox, thunderbird (due to be stopped by Mozilla). Firefox 13.01 Adobe flash (stopped for Linux) is installed via synaptic as adobe-installer module: OK.

So far, so good.

Conclusions:

The Linux philosophy “running everywhere” seems to be abandonned.

There are some distributions that continue to support old hardware. Exotic.

So I check with Fubuntu latest release with Eeepc701: OK.

Suming up:

– Eeepc 701: 2GB ram:

SDHC 16GB : 12.04 LTS desktop -> KO

USB flash 16GB: Lubuntu 12.04 -> OK

SDHC 16GB: Fubuntu -> OK
